As from the 8th May this year the government took away the minimum insulation requirements for access to claim the grant from the boiler upgrade scheme. Previously there had to be no recommendations for improvements to be made for loft and Cavity wall insulation from the properties EPC.
This has now opened the door for a lot more properties to claim the grant and as Cavity wall insulation is not the best solution for a lot of the housing stock this is a welcome change.
However you’ll need to bare in mind that many houses without cavity wall insulation or generally with poor insulation as a whole would not be best suited for a heat pump anyway, with the likelihood of increased bills and inefficiency.
As a result it will probably fall to the installer to recommend the improvements and options that are left to the homeowner and how these will effect both their environmental impact and their wallet.
