To try and cut through some of the confusion with the Grant requirements we have written this to give an overview of what is acceptable for the Boiler Upgrade scheme grants.
If you have a property post build of 1985 then the chances are you will have some form of cavity wall insulation.
As of 1990 the building regulations changed again and the u-value for walls dropped down to 0.45, this meant that cavity walls were built with thicker cavities so more insulation could be installed.
There are also many properties that have had cavity wall insulation retrofitted given this and presuming you have no recommendations for extra loft insulation on your EPC then you will be eligible for the Grant currently sitting at £7500.
If you have an older property with solid walls then you would still be eligible for the grant even though your heat losses through your walls will probably be greater than that of a property with cavity walls and no insulation.
It is worth considering however that the cost of running the heat pump within some of these properties would be very high.
These unfortunately are the rules set out under the scheme and reflect the inadequacies of using the EPC as the governing criteria for the grants, if in doubt we would recommend calling Insight Energy Systems if your are in the South West or if you are in a part of the country that we don’t cover, your local provider of Air Source Heat Pumps should be able to help.
